The expert spoke about the benefits and risks of facefitness

The technique of strengthening the muscles of the face with the help of special exercises — facefitness — can have the opposite effect: increase wrinkles or lead to facial asymmetry. However, with the right approach, practice can really bring tangible benefits. Kirill Antonov, senior instructor and methodologist at the Department of Restorative Medicine of JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia about this on April 25.
According to him, facefitness helps to improve the contours of the face, reduce the severity of wrinkles and increase skin elasticity by strengthening facial muscles. Regular exercise helps to improve blood circulation, which gives the skin a healthy appearance. Some techniques also help to relax tense muscles and reduce stress levels, which has a positive effect on appearance.
"However, when working on facial aesthetics, we must keep in mind that all the changes that appear on our face — wrinkles, puffiness under the eyes, and so on — are all derivatives of changes in the underlying structures — the neck, visceral system, and so on. It is impossible to get everything back to normal by fitness alone. Complex therapy is needed here, which includes facefitness," Antonov clarified.
The expert warns against incorrect exercise performance. Mistakes in technique can not only negate the expected effect, but also worsen the situation — increase wrinkles, create muscle contractures, or even lead to facial asymmetry. In some cases, there may be pain in the face and neck.
In addition, facefitness has a number of contraindications. People with serious skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, inflammation, recent surgery, or facial injuries, should refrain from exercising. Consultation with a doctor is necessary for neurological diseases (paralysis, tics) and oncological diagnoses, especially during chemotherapy.
"Before starting facefitness classes, it is advisable to consult with a qualified specialist who will be able to make recommendations taking into account individual characteristics and state of health," the specialist recommended.
Earlier, on April 3, Natalia Tkachenko, a cosmetologist chemist and founder of the beauty brand Roz Mary, told Izvestia about the benefits of squalane for skin and hair. As the specialist explains, squalane has pronounced moisturizing and softening properties. It helps to retain moisture in the skin, strengthens its protective barrier, makes it more elastic and smoothes fine wrinkles. In addition, protection from external factors and free radicals will also be an advantage of this substance.
