Over the past day, 242 traffic accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 23 people were killed and 304 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on April 24 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. 22 of the dead were passengers and drivers, the ministry said.
As a result of 64 accidents, 31 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 33 outside their area of operation, one pedestrian was killed, and 71 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 19 child pedestrians under the age of 16, 11 of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings.
Over the past day, 37 accidents involving minors were registered on Russian roads, as a result of which 47 young road users were injured, including 19 child passengers, six cyclists and two motor transport drivers. One schoolboy who was driving a motorcycle without a driver's license and helmet was killed.
13 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 30 road users, including 10 children, needed medical attention. The reason for the seven bus accidents was a violation of traffic rules by drivers of other vehicles.
In Petrozavodsk, during a snowfall, an SUV driver drove into the oncoming lane while overtaking in a prohibited place, where he collided with a city bus carrying 10 passengers. As a result of the accident, the driver of the car and two passengers of the bus ended up in the hospital with injuries, and the driver and five other passengers of the bus with various injuries were sent for outpatient treatment after medical care.
In Sevastopol, the driver of a tour bus traveling to one of the Crimean children's health camps with 41 children aged 12-13 years and four accompanying adults collided with a minivan and a crossover moving in front of him in the same direction. Eight minor bus passengers were injured and hospitalized in the accident.
In the city of Michurinsk, Tambov region, a car driver ran over four people who were crossing the roadway at a controlled pedestrian crossing at a traffic light. All four pedestrians were hospitalized.
In the Irkutsk region, a 15-year-old motorcyclist lost control and drove off the roadway, followed by hitting a power transmission pole. As a result of the accident, the teenager died.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting the management of cars and motor vehicles without the appropriate right and driving skills.
"Remember that the lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users. In addition, we draw parents' attention to the administrative responsibility for allowing children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category to drive motor vehicles," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
