Since the beginning of the year, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property has received 4.4 thousand applications for registration of patents for inventions. The indicator increased by 2.5%. This was stated by the head of Rospatent, Yuri Zubov, at the conference "Intellectual Property is the basis of an innovative economy."

"The highest patent activity from January to March was shown by state research institutes (scientific research institutes. — Ed.) and individual entrepreneurs. Research institutes have "grown" by 32%, and individual entrepreneurs - by almost one and a half times (+47%)," he said.

In general, the number of requests from small and medium-sized businesses increased by 7%. Medical technology has become the most popular field among inventors (647 patent applications).

How will this affect the industry and what will happen to prices?

In addition, in the first quarter of 2025, domestic developers submitted to the Federal Service for Intellectual Property more than 8 thousand applications for registration of computer programs (electronic computers) and databases. This is 5.4% more than the level of the same period in 2024.

According to Zubov, of the 8,175 applications from Russians for software, a significant proportion is software (6,984 applications). The remaining 1,135 applications have been submitted for database protection.

Earlier, on March 14, it was reported that in 2024, domestic developers submitted to Rospatent more than 40 thousand applications for registration of computer programs and databases. This figure exceeded the level of 2023 by 13% and by a third in 2022.
