Zakharova pointed to Kiev's inability to negotiate because of Zelensky's words about Crimea

The statement by the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, on the non-recognition of Crimea as Russian territory once again points to Kiev's inability to negotiate. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, said this at a briefing on April 24.

According to her, the Ukrainian leader disrupted the London round of consultations on the settlement of the conflict, thereby confirming his intention to "torpedo" the emerging peace process.

Zakharova recalled that Zelensky recently declared the non-recognition of Crimea by the Russian territories and demonstratively expressed a desire to negotiate only on a potential cease-fire.

"Such a schizophrenic approach by the Kiev regime has once again shown absolute incompetence, irresponsibility, and the desire to continue this massacre to the last Ukrainian, regardless of any victims," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed.

The day before, it was reported that the United States was outraged by Ukraine's refusal to recognize Crimea as Russian territory. According to The Washington Post, representatives of the American delegation canceled their visit to London for the next stage of negotiations on resolving the Ukrainian crisis amid "anger in Washington" over Kiev's unwillingness to agree to the official recognition of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, on April 23, American leader Donald Trump said that the United States was experiencing more difficulties in negotiations with Ukraine than with Russia, with which agreements had been practically reached. In addition, according to him, Zelensky's statement about the refusal to recognize Crimea as the territory of the Russian Federation hinders the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
