The deployment of peacekeeping forces on the historical territory of the Russian Federation may lead to a Third World War. This was announced on April 24 by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu.

According to him, in the context of Ukraine, Europe's plans to deploy a military contingent under the guise of peacekeepers are aimed at taking control of the country's territory and resources.

"The implementation of such a scenario could lead to a direct clash between NATO and Russia and further to World War III," Shoigu said in an interview with TASS.

He stressed that the Russian side opposed the presence of troops of the North Atlantic Alliance states in these territories even before the special military operation, which began largely due to the threat of the deployment of NATO military infrastructure in Ukraine.

"This is not a peacekeeping mission. <...> Apparently, for these reasons, among others, the states that make up the real world majority do not express much desire to participate in such initiatives," concluded the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Yesterday, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko told reporters that Russia would never support the idea of sending European troops to Ukraine. Besides, this initiative has absolutely no chance of success, she added.

In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called European politicians dreamers who demonstrate their inadequacy by proposing the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine. According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the elites have mobilized the entire European Union in order to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow.
