- Politico reported on the discussion in the White House about the possible lifting of sanctions against SP-2

The White House is considering the possibility of lifting sanctions on the Russian Nord Stream 2 (SP–2) gas pipeline and, possibly, some other assets of the Russian Federation as part of the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on April 23, citing sources.
According to the publication, the main initiator of the lifting of restrictions was the special envoy of US President Donald Trump, Stephen Witkoff. In particular, American Secretary of State Marco Rubio opposed the initiative.
"The resumption of Nord Stream 2 could bring financial benefits to Moscow, but only if the EU agreed to buy Russian gas through the pipeline again," the newspaper said.
It clarifies that the possible lifting of sanctions could be a "major concession" on the part of Trump. In addition, the adoption of this initiative will mean a diplomatic success for the Russian Federation.
Maxim Chirkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at GUU, announced on April 17 that the American authorities may ease sanctions pressure on Russia in the coming years. The West is suffering significant economic losses due to the current restrictions, and lifting them would be beneficial for the United States.
On March 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Russian Federation and the United States were considering the resumption of work on the Russian Nord Stream and Nord Stream–2 gas pipelines.
