On the Nameless volcano in Kamchatka, ash was released up to 11 km high. This was announced on April 24 by the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to him, a strong explosive eruption of the volcano began at 10:38 a.m. (01:38 Moscow time). The height of the ash release was estimated as 9 km above sea level, the volcano was covered with dense clouds.
At the same time, infrasound monitoring recorded a signal from the eruption at 11:22 a.m. (02:22 Moscow time), the delay in sound transmission between the station in Nachiki and the Nameless volcano was about 19 minutes, the organization added. In addition, an ash cloud over the volcano was first recorded at 11:30 (02:30 Moscow time) at an altitude of 10-12 km.
Volcanologist Yuri Demenchuk told Izvestia that the volcano's activity has increased since April 21 and is only continuing to grow.
"Incandescent avalanches are continuously rolling down the slope of the Nameless volcano in a southeasterly direction," Demenchuk said.
The main directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Kamchatka Territory reported that the aviation hazard code has increased to "red" because the volcano's activity is dangerous for local and international air travel.
The press service of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on April 12 that the Nameless volcano began to erupt, the ash rose to a height of 4 km above sea level, and its plume spread to a distance of 90 km northeast of the volcano. The situation was also assigned an orange danger level.
On April 9, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kamchatka Territory reported that there is a possibility of a strong eruption of the Nameless volcano in Kamchatka. At that time, it was noted that ash emissions could occur up to 10-15 km high. This activity can also affect international and low-flying aircraft.
