Students who are married or have children will be given dorm rooms as a matter of priority. Such changes to the law "On Education" should be introduced on April 24 by the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy in the lower house of parliament.

"Today, about 3% of students are married, although, according to surveys, about 60% would like to start a family," the explanatory note to the document says, citing data from the Institute for the Study of Childhood, Family and Upbringing.

If the law is passed, student families will receive a priority right to housing and will be able to live in it, even if the spouses study at different universities, said Artem Metelev, chairman of the committee.

Currently, the grounds for recognizing students in need of a dormitory are fixed in local legal acts of universities. However, this may lead to a violation of the rights of certain groups of students, it follows from the explanatory note.

Also, according to the bill, universities are proposed to be given the right to terminate the employment contract if a student has not appeared for more than three months without a valid reason.
