Veterans and students took part in the international action "Garden of Memory" in Yerevan

Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, students of Yerevan universities, members of the international community "Victory Volunteers" took part in the international action "Garden of Memory" in Victory Park in Yerevan. This was announced on April 23 in the press center of the international action.

It is specified that in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, 80 trees were planted to perpetuate the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for their Homeland in the fight against fascism. At the same time, the event took place despite a rare heavy downpour in Yerevan. The campaign has been held in Victory Park for the fifth year in a row, during which time about 700 trees have been planted.

The honorary guests of the event were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan Mukhammetgeldy Ayazov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bolat Imanbayev, as well as the great-niece of twice Hero of the Soviet Union, pilot Nelson Stepanyan Anna Stepanyan, student councils of five Armenian universities, members of the organization "Young Friends of Border Guards", employees of relevant ministries, children of nuclear scientists from Metsamor, "Volunteers of Victory".

"It is very important that all those gathered here represent countries that honor the memory of the great feat of our ancestors. Our common great Victory is part of the foundation on which we are developing now. This action has a special meaning. Every tree we plant is a tribute to our heroes. But this action has a second meaning — it embodies the connection between the past and the future, because every tree is a contribution to future landscaping and the creation of a healthy environment," said Sergey Kopyrkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia.

The brass band of the Border Department of the FSB of Russia and the soloist of the State Academic Choral Chapel of Armenia, the performer of military-patriotic songs Artur Agadazhanov also performed for the invited guests at the event.

It is noted that the action will continue on May 2 at the Victory Monument in Vanadzor, Armenia, where 80 birch trees will also be planted.

On April 13, WWII veteran Anatoly Parubin told Izvestia about the capture of Vienna by the Red Army in 1945. According to him, the Germans blew up almost all the bridges across the Danube in the city, but the Soviet soldiers managed to clear the last remaining crossing.
