The White House pointed to Zelensky's erroneous strategy in peace negotiations.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is moving in the wrong direction on the issue of peace talks. This was announced on April 23 by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt in an interview with Fox News channel.
"Unfortunately, President Zelensky seems to be moving in the wrong direction," the Reuters news agency quoted her as saying.
According to her, US President Donald Trump is upset with the current pace of the negotiation process and his patience is "running out." She stressed that the American leader wants to take "right actions for peace" and end the conflict.
In addition, Leavitt noted that the United States is disappointed with the attempts of the head of the Kiev regime to negotiate using "megaphone" diplomacy, as, for example, in the case of his statement on the refusal to recognize Crimea as Russian. According to the White House representative, negotiations on a peaceful settlement should be conducted behind closed doors, and not at the level of public statements.
In the evening of the same day, Trump said that Zelensky's statement about the refusal to recognize Crimea as Russian territory interferes with the peaceful settlement of the conflict. The US president clarified that the situation for Ukraine is terrible, and its president, by continuing the conflict, "may lose the whole country in a few years."
Prior to that, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned of a change in Washington's priorities with insufficient progress in resolving the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the United States has done everything possible and invested a lot of time and energy in the settlement at the highest government levels.
