Europe must step up its own efforts to ensure security in the region. This was announced by Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth on April 23 during his speech at the US Army College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

"The time when the United States was the sole guarantor of European security has passed," Hegseth said.

According to Hegseth, European countries should take a step forward and step up their military efforts. Europe must become a leader and a guarantor of security in the region.

Earlier, on April 23, it was reported that European countries would face problems if the United States reneged on its obligations to ensure its security. It is noted that the leaders of European countries have been discussing strategic autonomy for a long time, but, as a rule, within the framework of a system where the American side continues to control the main instruments of troop mobility.
