US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, may meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 25. This was reported on April 23 by the Axios portal, citing its source.
"Witkoff is expected to meet with Russian President Putin on Friday," the publication says.
According to the Flightradar portal, the Gulfstream G650 plane with the special envoy of the American leader on board, presumably, has already taken off towards the Russian Federation from Paris airport.
On April 22, White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced that Witkoff would arrive in Russia this week to continue talks with Putin. According to her, the special envoy of the US president and Trump himself believe that the progress of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is going in the right direction.
At the same time, Witkoff's plans to visit Moscow were announced by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. However, he did not specify on what specific day the American special envoy plans to arrive.
On April 11, Witkoff and the President of the Russian Federation met in St. Petersburg. It was clarified that the topic of the negotiations was aspects of the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, called the meeting between Putin and Witkoff a good opportunity to convey the Russian side's point of view to Trump before the talks began.
