Almost 240 Turkish citizens were injured in the earthquake in Istanbul, the head of the Turkish Ministry of Health Kemal Memisoglu said on April 23.

According to the minister, most of the injuries were caused by falling from a height, as many residents tried to escape amid the panic.

"There are no victims of any building collapses as a result of the earthquake. We are talking only about those who panicked after the tremors and fell from a height, or experienced a panic attack, a total of 236 people, their condition is normal," RIA Novosti quoted Memisoglu as saying at a briefing.

Before that, it was reported that an abandoned building in Istanbul collapsed after the tremors. Residents of the other 12 buildings were evacuated as a precaution. There are no victims of the disaster. According to the Ministry of Urban Development of Turkey, 127 aftershocks were recorded.

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus warned that citizens should be prepared for a new earthquake in Istanbul, which could occur at any moment. At the same time, he wished a speedy recovery to all those affected by the natural disaster in Istanbul.

On the afternoon of April 23, three earthquakes occurred in Turkey. The first 3.9-magnitude tremors were recorded off the coast of Istanbul's Silivri district. After that, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in Istanbul. Next, a magnitude 4.4 seismic event was recorded off the coast of Buyukcekmece in the Sea of Marmara.

According to seismologists from the Turkish Disaster Management Authority (AFAD), after the earthquake off the coast of the Marmara Sea, about 30 more aftershocks of magnitude two to five occurred.
