- Trump called Zelensky's words about the refusal to recognize Crimea interfering with the settlement

On April 23, US President Donald Trump said that the statement by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky about the refusal to recognize Crimea as Russian territory hindered the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
"No one is asking Zelensky to recognize Crimea as Russian territory, but if he wants Crimea, then why didn't they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without firing a shot?" Trump wrote on the TruthSocial social network.
According to Trump, Zelensky's statement is very harmful to peace talks with Russia, and the peninsula was lost many years ago "under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama." The American leader clarified that the situation for Ukraine is terrible, and its president, by continuing the conflict, "may lose the whole country in a few years."
The head of the White House also said that the world is very close to a deal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, but Zelensky must take a step forward.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the United States was outraged by Ukraine's refusal to recognize Crimea as Russian territory. It was clarified that representatives of the American delegation canceled their visit to London for the next stage of negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis amid "anger in Washington" due to Kiev's unwillingness to agree to the official recognition of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation.
