Gynecologist warned about serious causes of lower abdominal pain in women

Pain in the lower abdomen in women may indicate the presence of serious gynecological diseases that require timely medical attention. In no case should such a symptom be ignored. Maxim Voynov, a gynecologist and surgeon at the SM Clinic Center for Reproductive Health, told Izvestia on April 24.
"Sometimes such a symptom may be associated with temporary or non-dangerous conditions, but it is often a signal of serious gynecological problems. Neglecting such pains can lead to dangerous complications," Voynov warned.
So, according to him, common sources of pain in the lower abdomen are diseases such as endometriosis, inflammatory processes of the uterus and appendages, ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids.
The doctor explained that endometriosis is characterized by the overgrowth of tissue similar to the lining of the uterus, beyond its limits. Symptoms include intense pain, painful menstruation, and discomfort during intercourse. Ovarian cysts can be asymptomatic, but when they rupture or twist, severe pain occurs. Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that can cause pain, bleeding, and a feeling of heaviness.
Pelvic inflammatory diseases (PID) include infections of the uterus, ovaries, or fallopian tubes. Such pathologies are accompanied by pain, fever and general malaise.
"Adenomyosis is another dangerous condition in which endometrial tissue grows into the muscle layer of the uterus, causing pain and heavy bleeding. It is also worth mentioning adhesive disease, which is the formation of adhesions after surgery or inflammation, which can lead to pain and organ dysfunction," the specialist added.
According to him, without proper treatment, these diseases can develop into chronic conditions or lead to the need for surgical intervention. In addition, it is important to understand that, in addition to pain, these pathologies pose a risk to reproductive health — if they are not identified in a timely manner, they can cause infertility. Early diagnosis and therapy help to preserve the chances of motherhood.
Separately, the doctor spoke about acute pain in the lower abdomen — it can indicate serious conditions such as ectopic pregnancy, a dangerous condition in which a fetal egg develops outside the uterus, ovarian apoplexy, a ruptured ovarian cyst with severe pain and/or intra—abdominal bleeding, necrosis of the myomatous node, a threatening complication of fibroids, acute Infections — advanced inflammation can lead to an abscess or sepsis.
"If the pain is accompanied by additional symptoms, such as bleeding, fever, or sudden weakness, you should immediately consult a specialist. Even if the pain does not cause serious concern, consulting a doctor will help to avoid possible complications and maintain health," concluded Voynov.
Earlier, on March 8, gynecologist of the medical center of Dr. Alexandrovsky Vladimir Komagorov told Izvestia about the method for the diagnosis and treatment of intrauterine pathologies. According to him, hysteroscopy is one of the most informative and effective procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of intrauterine pathologies. The method allows you to examine the uterine cavity and accurately remove pathological formations, avoiding more traumatic operations.
