The US statements about a possible withdrawal from the negotiation process on Ukraine are blackmail and bargaining aimed at persuading the parties to the conflict to conclude an agreement on terms favorable to Washington. Natalia Eliseeva, a political scientist, political strategist and publicist, told Izvestia on April 23.

"This is just a form of trading, bargaining for higher priority conditions. On us (on the Russian Federation. — Ed.) now there is pressure, we are being manipulated. Moreover, it can be called a form of blackmail," the expert noted.

The political scientist recalled that a few days ago, positive assessments of the negotiation process from the team of US President Donald Trump could be seen in the information field. The fact that at the moment representatives of the state apparatus declare that Washington can "cut off bridges" is rather strange, Yeliseyeva emphasized.

"The United States absolutely does not care about the timing. Let me remind you about Trump's statement that he will end the Ukrainian conflict in one day. Even then it was clear that these were all fairy tales. Therefore, conditions are currently being negotiated that would be beneficial to the Americans. Not to Ukrainians, not to the European Union, not to Russia, but to Americans," the political scientist summed up.

On April 23, the head of the US State Department, Marco Rubio, in an interview with The Free Press portal, announced a better understanding of Russia's position on Ukraine, and also admitted that Washington could withdraw from the settlement process and deal with more priority issues.

Earlier that day, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance also announced the possibility of withdrawing from negotiations on Ukraine. He stressed that this could happen if Washington's proposals were not accepted in Moscow and Kiev. According to him, the conditions stipulate that each of the parties to the conflict will have to give up part of the controlled territory.
