Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev commented on threats from the German government not to allow him to attend events in Germany to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. He made the corresponding statement in an interview with Bild newspaper on April 22.

"We do not need a special invitation to honor the memory of Soviet liberators and victims of Nazism in public places and solemnly celebrate Victory Day," the ambassador noted.

At the same time, the press service of the administration of the German state agency stressed that the ambassadors of the Russian Federation and Belarus were not invited to the event on May 8 in the Bundestag.Газета.Ru ".

Earlier that day, it was reported that the Brandenburg authorities might not allow Nechaev to attend an event in honor of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, dedicated to the defeat of Nazi Germany. The reason for this statement, according to Bild, was the ambassador's words about attending the ceremony despite the prohibitions.

In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for a tough fight against the rewriting of history by the European Union (EU) countries. He stressed that in some EU states, the criminals convicted by the Nuremberg Tribunal are being equalized with those who liberated Europe from fascism.
