Criminal tendencies among migrant workers should not be allowed to form. This was stated on April 23 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following his visit to Uzbekistan.

The Foreign Minister noted that a complete reduction in the number of migrants is unlikely to meet Russia's interests, as there is a shortage of labor in the country.

"The second part of the problem is the need to comply with Russian laws and the need to prevent criminal tendencies from forming among migrant workers," Lavrov stressed.

The minister added that the task is to prepare migrants in advance before entering Russia, both in terms of their proficiency in the Russian language and knowledge of the laws and rules of conduct in the country.

"Recent changes to our legislation are aimed precisely at finding such a balance," Lavrov said.

Earlier, on April 21, it was reported that Russia may limit the number of attempts by migrant children to take a Russian language test for two years. It was clarified that the text of the bill will soon be submitted to the State Duma for consideration.
