The Russian side will never support the idea of sending European troops to Ukraine. This was announced to journalists on April 23 by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

"Russia will never participate in any negotiations to discuss the terms of such a possible deployment," the politician said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Matvienko stressed that the deployment of troops on Ukrainian territory is unacceptable for the Russian Federation. In addition, this initiative has absolutely no chance of success, the chairman of the Federation Council added.

Earlier in the day, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the Polish authorities would support NATO countries that want to send troops to Ukraine, but would not do so themselves.

In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called European politicians dreamers who demonstrate their inadequacy by proposing the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine. According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the elites have mobilized the entire European Union in order to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow.
