The SVR pointed to attempts by the West to rewrite history and influence the citizens of the CIS

On the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Western countries are trying to crudely rewrite history, as well as to instill alien principles in the citizens of the Union of Independent States (CIS) countries. This was announced on April 23 in the press office of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation.

"On the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory <...>, the West is trying to rudely and persistently rewrite history, deny the decisive role of the USSR in defeating fascism, and put completely alien principles and concepts into the minds of citizens of the CIS countries," said Sergei Naryshkin, director of the SVR, quoted by TASS.

It is specified that he said this at a meeting with the heads of veteran organizations of special services of the CIS countries. During the ceremony, participants laid flowers at the sculpture "Fatherland, Valor, Honor" on the territory of the headquarters of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, as well as at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier memorial near the Kremlin Wall.

Earlier in the day, Naryshkin called the ban from EU officials to European leaders on arrival in Moscow on May 9 disgusting. He stressed that such a position is immoral and removes masks from the faces of European politicians.

On April 14, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kallas, warned European officials that if they visited Russia to participate in Victory Day celebrations, they would face "consequences."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called her statement harsh and incorrect on April 15. He noted that such threats should be assessed by the States to which they are addressed.
