The European Union (EU) withdrew itself from the peace process in Ukraine due to its support for strikes on Russian facilities. This was stated on April 22 by Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky in an interview with Die ganze Woche.

"It has long been clear to us that the EU prefers, instead of serious peaceful initiatives, to support heavy attacks on Russia's civilian infrastructure, to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons, its instructors and military advisers. We have no illusions about this," the ambassador said.

He stressed that by doing so, the EU "puts itself out of the game" and should not complain that it is not at the negotiating table.

Also, according to Lubinsky, the European Union will have to restore economic and political ties with Russia after the conflict ends and its root causes are eliminated.

On March 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that the United States was directly talking about its desire to end the conflict in Ukraine, but Europe was demanding "the continuation of the banquet."
