The coffin with the body of Pope Francis was delivered to St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. This was reported on April 23 by the Vatican News portal.

Cardinal Camerlengo of the Roman Catholic Church Kevin Joseph Farrell leads the farewell ceremony, which was attended by cardinals, archbishops, bishops and ministers of the church. They led a march through Santa Marta Square in the Vatican, where more than 20,000 people gathered to pay their respects to the late Pope.

It is specified that the farewell to Francis will last until April 25.

The Pope's funeral will take place on Saturday, April 26. They are scheduled for 10:00 (11:00 Moscow time). A funeral mass will be held in front of St. Peter's Cathedral, and after that Francis will be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

Pope Francis died on the morning of April 21 at the age of 89. According to the director of the Vatican's Office of Health and Hygiene, Professor Andrea Archangeli, death occurred as a result of a cerebral stroke. On the occasion of his death, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of condolences to the Camerlengo of the Roman Catholic Church to Farrell.

The last time Pope Francis appeared in public was on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica during Easter celebrations on April 20. The pontiff had been struggling with bilateral pneumonia for a long time.
