Sudden temperature changes, vitamin deficiency, allergens and increased viral activity pose serious health threats in the spring. Allergic reactions to blooms and pollen are a particularly common problem. On April 24, a general practitioner, district physician of JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences Oksana Serebryakova told Izvestia about this.

The specialist calls allergic reactions one of the main problems of spring. Flowering plants provoke hay fever, which affects 80% of allergy sufferers. Allergies are manifested by a runny nose, lacrimation, and sneezing attacks. Pollen is particularly dangerous for asthmatics, as it can cause bronchospasms.

Viral infections pose an equally serious threat. Cold mornings and warm days create ideal conditions for the spread of SARS. According to the doctor, a double viral attack occurs in the spring: winter flu strains are still active, and new respiratory infections are already beginning to circulate.

Serebryakova recommends paying attention to nutrition. Early vegetables often contain an increased amount of nitrates, and insufficiently washed gifts of nature can cause intestinal infections. Also, the frequency of streptococcal sore throats and pharyngitis increases by 30% in spring compared to the winter period.

The psycho-emotional state also requires control.

"Every fifth person has a spring exacerbation of anxiety or depression due to the restructuring of biorhythms," the expert said.

To protect your health, your doctor recommends following seven basic rules. According to her, the diet should focus on sauerkraut as a source of vitamin C, eggs for vitamin D, and pumpkin seeds rich in zinc. It is useful to add fermented foods to the diet to maintain intestinal microflora.

Proper hardening also plays an important role. The specialist advises starting the day with a contrast shower with a temperature difference of 10-15 degrees, gradually increasing the difference. If you are prone to allergies, you should rinse your nose with saline solution after walking, and asthmatics should always have an inhaler at hand.

To maintain emotional balance, the doctor recommends going to bed before 23:00, as melatonin is produced better at night. Practicing the 4-7-8 breathing technique to relieve tension has a good effect.

In addition, you should gradually increase your physical activity, starting with 30-minute walks before switching to intense workouts.

"If symptoms persist for more than five days or at temperatures above 38°C be sure to consult a doctor. Spring illnesses are insidious because they disguise themselves as each other: allergies can be mistaken for acute respiratory viral infections, and viral infections can be mistaken for overwork," the therapist recommended.

Earlier, Olga Tsagaraeva, a pulmonologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia about the non-obvious symptoms of asthma. She explained that in addition to the classic manifestations of asthma, there is also a cough form of the disease, in which the only symptom may be a cough, both dry and with sputum separation. The disease often develops against the background of allergic reactions, so it is important to pay attention to the relationship of symptoms with potential allergens.
