Some mobile applications, disguised as useful utilities or banking interfaces, can imperceptibly debit money from the owner's account. Marina Kholod, an employee of the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence, Neurotechnology and Business Analytics at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, told on April 23 about which applications you need to be especially careful with and how not to fall into the trap of scammers.

According to her, experts identify three groups of applications that can imperceptibly debit money from the owner's accounts.

"First of all, these are malicious applications (viruses, Trojans) and applications with aggressive advertising that disguise themselves as useful programs (cleaners, accelerators, games) and can subscribe you to paid services or steal bank card data, for example, FakeBank, Joker, HiddenAds," Kholod said in an interview with the agency."Prime."

She explained that such applications often use fake "OK" or "Continue" buttons, which redirect the gadget owner to sites offering paid services.

The third group of insecure applications includes applications that copy the interfaces of popular banks such as Sberbank or Tinkoff. An unwary user, the expert explained, may accidentally enter their personal data and subsequently lose money.

Kholod advises giving preference to proven, highly rated apps that are available on official stores (Google Play, AppStore). Before installing the program, you should disable the SMS payment function, and then regularly monitor the transaction history in the bank's mobile application.

On April 18, the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation said that using a VPN when working with banking applications could lead to the blocking of a personal account. It was clarified that VPN applications that allow bypassing blocked Internet resources can analyze the user's interests in order to offer him advertising. In the worst case scenario, you can get malware on your smartphone.
