On April 22, Russian State Duma deputy Leonid Ivlev criticized the statement by the head of the European Union (EU) diplomacy, Kai Kallas, after her words about the non-recognition of the Russian status of Crimea and urged her to study history and fill in gaps in knowledge.

"The daughter of a nomenklatura member of the CPSU in Soviet Estonia, pioneer Kaya Kallas, should not have skipped history lessons at school about how the leading world powers ended relations with Soviet Russia after the 1917 revolution," Ivlev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

In addition, he recalled that in 1920, Estonia was the first to recognize the USSR.

"So it will be now with the recognition of Crimea. So Callas should study history and fill in her gaps," the politician stressed.

Bloomberg reported on April 19 that the United States is ready to recognize the Republic of Crimea as Russian territory in the agreement on Ukraine.

Vladimir Shapovalov, a political scientist, board member of the Russian Association of Political Science, and project manager of the EISI, said at the Izvestia News Center on March 13 that Crimea is the basis of Russia's geopolitical strength and a symbol of its military history.
