A police officer was injured during a shootout in Derbent

In Derbent, a car driver opened fire on police officers and ran over one of the law enforcement officers. This was reported on April 23 in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Dagestan.

The incident occurred at about 21:00 on Tuesday, April 22, when the police tried to stop the attacker in the car. The man ignored the demands to stop, knocked down one of the police officers, and then shot several times in the direction of law enforcement officers.

"Today, at about 21:00, police officers, together with colleagues from the Rosgvardiya, carried out a set of measures to prevent and suppress serious and especially serious crimes. In the area of Makhachkalinskaya Street in Derbent, the driver of the car ignored repeated demands to stop the vehicle, tried to escape, deliberately ran over a policeman and fired several shots at the officers," the Telegram channel said.

In response to the actions of the attacker, police officers used their service weapons. The shooter died of his wounds. A pistol was found in his car.

The injured police officer was hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. His life is not in danger, the department noted. An inspection is underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

On February 16, the Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan reported that in the village of Khuchni, Tabasaran district, a car driver opened fire on police officers, and an inspection was underway. During the arrest, the violator was wounded.
