Major General Mikhail Varentsov, head of the Rosgvardiya Department for Digital Development and Information Protection, was detained in Moscow. This was reported to TASS by law enforcement agencies on Tuesday, April 22.

Varentsov was detained as part of an investigation into a particularly large-scale fraud case initiated earlier against Nikolai Chepkasov, head of the main Information Technology Center of the Russian Guard, who has been in custody for a year.

"Both defendants are charged with committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale")," the agency clarified.

It later became known that Varentsov had been given a preventive measure in the form of detention in Moscow, which follows from the case materials published on the website of the 235th garrison military Court.

On April 17, the press service of the Moscow courts of general jurisdiction reported that the Meshchansky Court of the capital had arrested Alexey Dedov, former first deputy governor of the Kursk Region, in a case of particularly large-scale fraud. It was specified that the term of arrest of the person involved, accused under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale"), will be two months.
