On April 22, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the publication of the Financial Times newspaper about the alleged proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine along the current front line.

The publication's article claims that the Russian leader proposed this in a conversation with US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, in St. Petersburg.

"A lot of fakes are being published now, including by reputable publications, so you only need to listen to the original sources," Peskov stressed in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

On April 11, Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in St. Petersburg. It was clarified that the topic of the negotiations was aspects of the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Peskov, in turn, called the meeting between Putin and Witkoff a good opportunity to convey to Trump the point of view of the Russian side before the start of negotiations.
