Lavrov arrives in Uzbekistan on an official visit

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. This was reported on April 22 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

The plane on which he arrived landed at Samarkand airport. After landing, Lavrov was met by Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

During the two-day visit, the Russian Foreign Minister will hold talks with his Uzbek counterpart and meet with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the publication of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties will discuss the range of the bilateral agenda, review the progress of the implementation of agreements on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and cooperation between the countries. It was clarified that the main focus will be on the interaction between Moscow and Tashkent in a difficult geopolitical situation.

On April 7, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko spoke about an open and meaningful conversation with Mirziyoyev. She also called Russia and Uzbekistan true allies and clarified that trade is growing daily. She clarified that during the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan confirmed his participation in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow on May 9.

Also in February, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mirziyoyev noted the expansion of humanitarian cooperation in the fields of culture, art, science and education of the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan. In addition, the leaders of the two countries exchanged views on issues on the international agenda and discussed the schedule of upcoming events.
