Moldovan authorities have banned the holding of events in honor of Victory Day on May 9 in the main square of Chisinau. This was announced on April 22 by Alexey Petrovich, the leader of the Pobeda Coordination Committee.

According to him, the authorities have officially announced that only Europe Day will be celebrated in the republic on May 9. For these purposes, the area of the Grand National Assembly is planned to be occupied by the organization of the so-called "European town".

"Apparently, the authorities no longer consider those who intend to celebrate Victory Day to be their own citizens. There are no opportunities for them to celebrate the holiday with dignity," Petrovich added in his Telegram channel.

Earlier, on April 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the ban of the European Union (EU) for participating countries to visit Russia during the celebration of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) on May 9 "rehabilitates the ideology of Nazism."

On April 14, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kallas, warned European officials that if they visited Russia to participate in Victory Day celebrations, they would face "consequences."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called her statement harsh and incorrect on April 15. He noted that such threats should be assessed by the States to which they are addressed.
