By the summer, rates on medium-term deposits in credit institutions will drop below 20% per annum, the Post Bank shared its forecasts with Izvestia on April 23.

On the eve of the meeting of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on the key interest rate, many banks lowered their deposit yields. It is still possible to place funds for six and nine months at 20% per annum, but by the summer, the level is likely to be set at 19-19.5% per annum, suggested Alexey Okhorzin, Deputy President and Chairman of the Board of Postbank.

According to him, the optimal combination of term and profitability, as well as a way to protect money from inflation, are deposits for six or nine months.

Speaking about lending, he noted that the cooling period continues in the market. Some financial players have started reducing interest rates on borrowed funds, but they are still at a fairly high level. According to the bank, this trend will continue at least until the autumn.

"Now the market is waiting for signals of monetary policy easing. Despite the significant strengthening of the ruble and the slowdown in inflation, the target level has not yet been reached. The beginning of a reduction in the key rate can be predicted no earlier than the June meeting of the Central Bank. The measures taken by the regulator generally have a positive effect on the dynamics of inflation, but at least several months should pass for a comprehensive assessment," concluded Okhorzin.

The next meeting of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank will be held on April 25. On April 21, Deputy Chairman of the Board of SDM-Bank, Head of Treasury Eduard Lushin expressed the opinion that the regulator would leave the key rate unchanged.
