The United States imposes duties of up to 35.21% on solar panels from Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand. This was reported by Bloomberg on April 22.

"The United States has imposed new duties of 35.21% on solar energy imports from four Southeast Asian countries, which has provided benefits for domestic producers [the United States] and increased headwinds already threatening the development of the country's renewable energy," the article says.

It is specified that the duties will also affect American companies in the field of renewable energy, which relied on inexpensive foreign supplies.

According to BloombergNEF, in 2024, the United States imported solar energy equipment worth $12.9 billion from four countries that will be subject to new duties. This represents about 77% of the total imports of solar modules to the United States.

Prior to that, on April 9, US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of duties imposed on a number of countries for 90 days. The head of state also announced an immediate increase in duties on products from China to 125%. On April 10, this figure reached 145%.

Chinese economist Andrew Leung, in turn, told Izvestia in February that the tariffs imposed by Trump on imports of goods would lead to an increase in consumer prices in the United States itself.
