The prosecutor's office has sent a case against a mercenary from Georgia to the DPR Supreme Court.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sent to the republican Supreme Court a criminal case against 44-year-old Georgian citizen Alexei Pithelauri, who participated in hostilities as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on the agency's website on April 22.

"He is charged in absentia under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")... Pithelauri has been put on the international wanted list, and a preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen in absentia by the court," the publication says.

It was established that the Georgian citizen arrived in Ukraine in March 2022. Later, he voluntarily joined the International Legion. It is noted that the mercenary was given fire-fighting weapons, ammunition, special equipment, uniforms and other means of life support.

According to the prosecutor's office, the defendant fought against the Russian army in the period from November 2022 to January of this year as part of the 79th Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is specified that he received a reward of more than 2.7 million rubles for his participation in the fighting.

On April 18, the DPR Supreme Court sentenced Joseph Philip McDonald, a British mercenary who participated in military operations on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to more than 14 years in prison in absentia. It was clarified that upon arrival in Ukraine, he joined the first infantry battalion "Wolfhound" of the International Legion as a mercenary. It was noted that he received more than 2.1 million rubles for participating in battles against the Russian army.
