MTS has launched a mainline transportation system in the Komi Republic

MTS PJSC has put into commercial operation in the Komi Republic and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug a fiber-optic backbone communication line with a length of more than 1,250 km on the Ukhta — Pechora — Usinsk —Naryan-Mar section and upgraded the mobile communications infrastructure along the highway, the company's press service reported.
"For a long time, leased terrestrial and satellite channels were the only solution for providing communication services in Komi. However, with the increase in traffic consumption, we faced the task of creating our own productive transport to connect the region with the federal MTS infrastructure. Therefore, the importance of the new VOLS cannot be overestimated: residents get access to modern digital services and high—speed Internet, and both regions provide an impetus for socio-economic development. For the company, the availability of its own transport infrastructure has reduced operating costs, and in the long term opens up opportunities for capacity scaling, the introduction of new customer solutions and the deployment of next—generation networks," said Dmitry Evdokimov, Director of the Department of Backbone and Multiservice Networks at MTS.
Now the Republic of Komi and the Nenets Autonomous District with a total population of more than 760 thousand people are integrated into a single redundant transport network with a capacity of up to 100 GB/s, MTS emphasized. There are also 16 nodes on the DWDM transport network and 19 MBH nodes on the mobile backbone network from Naryan-Mar in the Arctic to Kirov in the Volga region. The project has been implemented since 2021, and the company's total investment in the project amounted to more than 880 million rubles.
In 2025, MTS plans to complete branches in the Komi Republic from the CFS to the nodes of the transport network and base stations.
