- The political scientist spoke about the benefits for the Democrats in the event of Musk's resignation.

The departure of American billionaire Elon Musk from the post of head of the Department of Public Efficiency (DOGE) may lead to the Democrats continuing to force members of the team of US President Donald Trump to retire from public service. Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the RAS Center for Security Studies and an American political scientist, told Izvestia on April 22.
The Washington Post reported yesterday that an American businessman may leave his job in the government. According to the newspaper's source, he is tired of attacks and criticism from Democrats. Musk's powers as a civil servant expire at the end of May, but it is not yet known whether they will be extended, the material says.
The expert admitted that the resignation of the head of DOGE could be perceived by the public as a success of the US Democratic Party, which is an image risk for Trump.
"Then it turns out that the Democrats, although they have no real power, were able to force Musk to leave with the help of informational and psychological pressure. If they succeed, they can repeat this trick further," Blokhin stressed.
He recalled that at the moment, another member of the Trump team, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, is under certain information pressure due to the scandal surrounding chats in the Signal messenger.
Then it will turn out that the Trump administration is leaving or being fired due to public pressure, the political scientist emphasized. At the same time, he called the American leader a "thick-skinned" politician, whose perseverance and work such events are unlikely to have a strong impact.
According to the expert, the fact that Musk was allowed to work in the government arouses hatred among Democrats.
"If he leaves the Trump team, will this bond between Trump and Musk be severed? I doubt. There are good relations between them, Musk is one of the main financial donors to the US Republican Party, so in this case he will lose only one thing — a headache. He will not be forced to deal with this bureaucracy and shrugging off attacks and various attacks from the left," Blokhin stressed.
The political scientist noted that Musk would lose absolutely nothing if he left public service, but he did not rule out the impact of such an event on the image of the Trump team. The American leader may find another manager to continue reforming the state apparatus, but in terms of reputational risks, Musk's departure may not be the most favorable event for a politician, he concluded.
On April 1, Trump admitted that Musk might step away from politics and government in the future in order to devote all his time to business again. He also appreciated how well Musk was doing his job, calling him a "talented guy."
On April 10, Axios ports reported that Democrats from the House of Representatives are preparing a campaign to force Musk to leave the Trump administration. The portal published their letter to the American president, which says that they will also seek to ensure that Musk is banned from returning to public service without refusing to participate in the activities of his companies.
