Paris has again not invited Russian representatives to an official event dedicated to Victory Day, but continues to interact with the heirs of the Nazis. This was stated on April 22 by Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"I will tell you frankly — to me, the son of a war veteran <...> it has always been uncomfortable to sit on the same podium with the descendants of those who killed and tortured millions of our compatriots in concentration camps. Therefore, I do not feel any regret from not participating in events that do not invite representatives of the country that won the war, but flirt with the grandchildren of the Nazis," he said.

The ambassador clarified that the Russian diplomatic mission will hold its own traditional event at the monument to Soviet members of the Resistance movement at the Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris, as well as at the Soviet military necropolis in Noyer-Saint-Martin.

"In addition, this year we will gather compatriots and French friends of Russia for a concert by the Turkish Choir, which will visit Paris as part of the Victory Songs tour," said Meshkov.

Earlier, on April 16, it was reported that Russia and Belarus were not invited to a solemn event in the German Bundestag on May 8 in memory of the end of World War II. It was stated that the decision was made taking into account the recommendations of the German authorities.

Earlier, on April 9, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the German Foreign Ministry had explicitly recommended that federal, regional and local organizations expel Russian officials from events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
