Slovakia has collected the necessary number of signatures to hold a referendum on lifting sanctions against Russia. This was announced on April 22 by Pavol Slota, a Slovak activist and chairman of the DOMOV party.

"The limit set by the law (350 thousand signatures) An agreement has been reached to announce a referendum on Slovakia's non-application of anti-Russian sanctions. We will inform you about further steps in the coming days," he wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The politician clarified that at the moment it has been possible to collect 356,593 thousand signatures, which exceeds the established number. It is noted that the upcoming referendum will be called on the issue of lifting the further introduction of anti-Russian sanctions by Slovakia, which harm Slovak citizens and entrepreneurs.

At the moment, the date of the referendum is not specified.

Earlier, on April 10, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the European Union (EU) should create a good atmosphere for peace talks, including lifting some of the sanctions against Russia. He also clarified that he did not believe in the effect of sanctions.

The day before, the head of the Slovak parliament's international affairs committee, Marian Carey, told Izvestia that Slovakia had no plans to support the 17th package of European sanctions against Russia. He clarified that Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban oppose the adoption of those sanctions that will harm states.
