The Russian military told about the liberation of the monastery in Gornala

The liberation of the St. Nicholas Belogorsky Monastery in the Kursk region by the Russian military may mean the final failure of the Kursk adventure for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces told Izvestia on April 22 about the course of the operation.
The widespread footage of the monastery's liberation is the main confirmation of the fall of the last major fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. The video shows how the infantry competently disperses around the monastery, and then the retreating Ukrainian militants are "caught up" by artillery fire.
"After the fall of the AFU outpost in Guevo, the enemy's defenses in Gornali and already in the Sumy region began to collapse inexorably. Our troops are creating a buffer zone along the entire border, pushing the enemy's guns further away from Russian territory," says correspondent Denis Kulaga.
It was with the shelling and seizure of the monastery of St. Nicholas Monastery that the Ukrainian Armed Forces began their invasion of the Kursk region in August 2024. The Ukrainian enemy has assembled a garrison of about 500 people there, placing mortar and artillery pieces on the territory.
"A machine gun was working on them, they were forced to open fire on it, the guys started moving correctly in twos and threes, suppressed the enemy's point," said the company commander with the call sign Vostok.
The main issue remains the fate of the monastery's valuable relics. It is known that his central shrine, the Pryazhevsky Icon of the Mother of God, was taken to the Pokrovsky Temple during the attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It is unknown where the rest of the valuables may be located.
Russian military personnel liberated the Gornal St. Nicholas Belogorsky Monastery in the Kursk region from the occupation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces earlier on April 22. It is noted that the monastery served as a military facility for Ukrainian militants, on the territory of which artillery installations and drone control points were located.
As the abbot of the monastery, Abbot Pitirim (Plaksin), told Izvestia, the Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled the St. Nicholas Belogorsky Monastery in the Kursk region until the dome caught fire and a fire broke out. He noted that the temples in the region — sacred buildings in which everyone is accustomed only to pray — were smashed on the first day of the Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive in the Kursk region.
