Four Ukrainian Armed Forces militants were sentenced to up to 16 years for crimes in the Kursk region.

The Second Western District Military Court has sentenced four militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to up to 16 years in prison for invading the territory of the Kursk region. This was announced on April 22 by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

"The court has passed a verdict in a criminal case against military personnel <... soldiers of the armed formations of Ukraine Vladimir Dobizha, Artem Mironenko, Oleg Patabenko and Sergey Kozub. They were found guilty under clauses "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior agreement, which entailed grave consequences)," the Prosecutor General's Office wrote on its website.

According to the investigation, in 2024, armed militants repeatedly crossed the border of the Russian Federation in the Korenevsky, Sudzhansky and Glushkovsky districts of the Kursk region.

"The militants mined road directions and areas, repeatedly opened fire with military weapons, forbade people from moving, and prevented their evacuation," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, on October 1, 2024, during the fighting, they were detained by soldiers of the Russian army.

Thus, the court sentenced Mironenko to 16 years in prison, Dobizhe, Patabenko and Kozub to 15 years in prison, with the first three years served in prison, and the rest in a high-security penal colony.
