More than 50 forest fires are being extinguished in Transbaikalia

As of the morning of April 22, 51 forest fires are active in the Trans-Baikal Territory on an area of more than 166 thousand hectares. The largest one is raging in the aviation zone in the Tungochensk district. These are the data from the regional Ministry of Nature.

According to the ChitaMedia news agency, with reference to the agency, the fire area in the Tungochensk district is 18 thousand hectares. 303 people and 14 vehicles are fighting the fire, as well as an all-terrain vehicle, a tractor with a plow, a bulldozer and fire trucks.

During the day, three fires were localized in the region on an area of 900 hectares. They are being extinguished by 45 people and nine units of special equipment. 10 fires on an area of 5,000 hectares were eliminated.

Earlier, on April 21, it was reported that 878 landscape fires have occurred in the Trans-Baikal Territory on an area of more than 300 thousand hectares since the beginning of the current 2025. Of these, there are 302 forest fires on a total area of more than 280 thousand hectares. Such figures were announced by Viktor Minin, Deputy head of the Department of Administrative Practice and Inquiry of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, during the round table "Why is Transbaikalia burning so much?": who is to blame and what should I do?" Since the beginning of the fire season, a 69% increase in forest fires has been recorded, while a 36% decrease in dry grass has been observed.
