The spring flood in the Murmansk region will begin in the third decade of April — early May. By this time, an increase in the water content of rivers and an influx of water into reservoirs is expected, the press service of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

According to polar meteorologists, the water level in the mountain rivers and reservoirs of the northeast of the region will rise in the first days of May. The high water will reach its peak by the second half of May, at the same time the ice will start melting on the rivers.

According to Bi-Port news agency, ice drift on most lakes and reservoirs in the Arctic region is expected earlier this year – by the end of May or the beginning of June.

The rescue department stressed that it is especially important to monitor the situation on the Varzuga River, where congestion and flooding are likely, and on the Kola River due to possible flooding of suburban areas.
