The cost of taxi rides in Russia has increased 2.5 times in five years, with a 22% increase in the last year alone. The average check for all regions in the first quarter of 2025 increased to 460 rubles compared to the same period last year. This is stated in the results of a study by MTS Bank analysts, which were reviewed by Izvestia on April 22.

Experts have suggested that price increases are likely to continue this year due to a shortage of staff in the industry and rising car maintenance costs.

At the same time, the rise in price led to a sharp decrease in the number of taxi rides — in the first quarter of 2025, their number decreased by 35% compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, the demand of Russians for public transport has increased — the number of transactions in the first quarter of this year increased by 17%, and the average check increased by 14%, to 50 rubles.

Russians have also become more active in using electric trains and carsharing. During the year, the number of transactions increased by 16 and 11%, respectively. The average bill for electric trains remained at the level of last year and amounted to 190 rubles, while for carsharing it increased by 3% to 570 rubles.

Earlier, on March 3, it was reported that the problem of shortage of taxi drivers had worsened. If in 2023 70% of carriers reported a shortage of personnel, then in 2024 this figure increased to 77%. This was told to Izvestia by the Public Council for Taxi Development, which summed up the results of the All-Russian survey of carriers. The key reasons for the current situation are the difficulty of finding qualified personnel, stricter regulation of the industry, as well as unwillingness to work according to the new requirements for taxis.
