Rosstandart has suspended the sale of Istok trucks in Russia

The Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) has suspended vehicle type approval TC No. RU E-RU.MT35.01207, issued in respect of ISTOK type 4749D trucks, and also issued an order to the manufacturer of these vehicles suspending their sale. This was announced on April 21 in a message posted on the official website of the department.

Rosstandart reported that, based on the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the agency conducted an unscheduled on-site inspection of compliance with the mandatory requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles" (TR CU 018/2011) in relation to the manufacturer of these machines. During the control measures, it was found that trucks of the Istok brand of category N1 did not meet a number of mandatory requirements.

"An artificial underestimation of the maximum technically permissible mass to 3,500 kg was revealed, which entails, taking into account the mass of the base chassis, the possibility of transporting cargo weighing only 150 kg (in fact, such a truck can and does carry loads up to 7,000 kg). This violation misleads the buyer (consumer) regarding the intended purpose and the safe operating conditions provided. such a vehicle," Rosstandart said in a statement.

In addition, violations of safety requirements regarding braking systems, seat belt fasteners and noise restrictions were identified, including taking into account the operating characteristics of vehicles of category N1.

"In fact, medium—tonnage trucks (N2) Istok, declared as small trucks (N1), are not restricted from entering the city center, where, for example, they create increased risks of accidents due to longer braking distances and increase noise pollution of the city center," the department notes.
