The Poas volcano has erupted in Costa Rica.


In Costa Rica, north of the city of San Jose, the volcano Poas erupted, causing ash to rise to an altitude of 4 km above sea level. This was reported on April 21 by the newspaper El Comercio with reference to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori).
"The powerful eruption of the Poas volcano, which occurred on the afternoon of Monday, April 21, 2025. <...> The ash reached 4 km above the crater, which is a significant height, unprecedented since 2017," the publication says.
It is specified that no ash was recorded in the areas adjacent to the volcano. In addition, there was not a single earthquake before the eruption. According to the newspaper, the eruption also did not affect the Juan Santamaria International Airport, which continues to function fully.
The Antara news agency reported on April 16 that five new eruptions of the Semeru volcano occurred in the province of East Java in Indonesia. According to experts, the column of volcanic ash rose to a height of 1 thousand m above the crater, reaching 4,676 m above sea level.
