Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian hockey player and captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club, took 13th place in the ranking of the best scorers in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs.

The forward scored two goals in the game against HC Montreal Canadiens in the first match of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, which took place on April 21 at Capital One Arena and ended with a score of 3:2 in favor of the hosts.

Ovechkin made scoring shots in the 19th and 62nd minutes of the match. His team also featured striker Anthony Beauvillier (32nd). Among the Montreal players, forwards Cole Caufield (50th) and Nick Suzuki (55th) also scored.

After this match, the Russian hockey player scored the 74th goal in the NHL playoffs in his entire career. He currently shares 13th place with American Joe Pavelski. The top spot on the list belongs to Wayne Gretzky, who managed to score 122 goals in 208 games.

Ovechkin updated the record for goals scored in the NHL on April 18. The athlete scored in the away match against Pittsburgh, which ended with a score of 5:2 in favor of the home team. At this game, the hockey player increased the number of goals scored to 897.

On April 6, a Russian hockey player scored his 895th goal in regular NHL games, breaking the "eternal" record of Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky. On April 10, the hockey player called the record goal the most important moment of his life.
