The news about the search for a new candidate for the post of head of the Pentagon is being spread by the same media outlets that spread "fakes about Russia." This was announced on April 21 by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

"Several people involved in leaking information were fired, and suddenly a bunch of commissioned articles appeared in the same media outlets that spread fakes about Russia. <...> You see, that's what the media do. They take anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees, and then try to smear people and ruin their reputation," Hegseth said.

He also stated that this would not work with him, since anonymous slanderous statements by disgruntled former Pentagon employees on old news do not matter.

White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said on April 21 that US President Donald Trump strongly supports Hegseth's activities, despite the fact that the entire Pentagon is opposed to the current head of the military and the changes he is trying to carry out in his post.
