The Russian Ambassador in Bern appreciated Switzerland's mediation efforts
The Russian side is skeptical about Switzerland's initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine due to its one-sided position.
"Last year's meeting in Burgenstock was quite predictably an empty PR campaign without any practical result. Currently, there is no noticeable activity by the Swiss authorities to further promote the so—called "Burgenstock" initiative," Russian Ambassador to Switzerland Sergey Garmonin said in an interview with Izvestia.
He recalled the context of last year's conference in Burgenstock: if the local authorities somehow tried to disguise this event as a kind of "peace summit," then the Kiev regime was outspoken and did not hide the true goals of this meeting at all.
"There were three of them: the promotion of the "formula of peace" of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, which is absolutely unacceptable to us, the expansion of the anti-Russian coalition at the expense of the countries of the Global South, and the issuance of a collective ultimatum to Russia. So, in principle, such a format cannot be interesting for the Russian side. I hope that Bern has drawn the right conclusions from the situation with the failed summit in Burgenstock," the ambassador said.
Switzerland has not approached Russia with a proposal to organize a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States Leader Donald Trump, the Russian ambassador noted. He stressed that among the majority of the world's countries, there are many states friendly to Russia that are actually ready to provide "good services."
"Until the official Bern changes its unfriendly course towards our country, there can be no question of any mediation role of the confederation. We see no point in acting to the detriment of Russian interests," the diplomat added.
