If Elon Musk leaves the post of head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Russell Vaught, acting head of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), could be appointed to replace him. On April 21, Bloomberg wrote about this, citing data from a source in the White House.

"It is widely believed about Vaught [in the White House administration] that he is preparing to pick up what Musk will leave. Where Musk has shown a zeal for crashing and taking over, Voate has the institutional knowledge and perhaps patience," the media notes.

According to the source, the new candidate will be able to keep the cuts already organized by DOGE in force and continue this work. Describing Wout's work style, the White House says that at a time when Musk took credit for making cuts at the CFPB subordinate to Wout, he actually "quietly completed more serious tasks."

As noted by former adviser to US President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, Vout is better and more accurately able to manage the federal government, and is "one of the key architects" of the restructuring process initiated by the head of state.

The Washington Post (WP) 21 newspaper reported that American billionaire Musk wants to leave his job in the government because he is tired of criticism from the left. According to the publication, Musk's status as a special government employee expires at the end of May, but it is not yet known whether this period will be extended.

The Axios portal reported on April 10 that a group of 77 Democrats of the U.S. House of Representatives is launching a coordinated campaign to remove Musk from the White House administration by May 30.

Earlier, on March 31, Trump said that Musk might step away from politics and government in the future in order to devote all his time to business again. However, the president said he would try to keep him on the team as long as he could.
