- The Iranian president declared his readiness for a deal with the United States, taking into account the interests of Tehran.
Iran is ready to make a deal with the United States on its nuclear program, but only if its national interests are taken into account. This was announced on March 21 by President of the Islamic Republic Mahmoud Pezeshkian at a meeting with the governors of the country's regions.
"Regarding negotiations with the United States, within certain limits and subject to national interests, we are ready to reach an agreement," the Iranian president's website quoted him as saying.
The head of the Iranian government added that if Washington rejects the deal on equal terms, Tehran will go its own way.
On April 12, the first round of negotiations between the United States and Iran on the lifting of sanctions and nuclear issues ended. During the meeting, the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, in the presence of Omani Foreign Minister Badr Bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, exchanged the positions of their governments on these issues.
On April 19, the second stage of negotiations took place in Rome. The Iranian delegation was headed by Araqchi. Washington was represented by Witkoff. The following day, the American ABC News channel reported, citing an unnamed White House official, that the parties had made "very good" progress during this meeting.
