The Zheleznodorozhny District Court of Rostov-on-Don has extended the arrest of former deputy Governor of the Rostov region Vitaly Kushnarev in a bribery case. This was announced on April 21 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

After reading out the report, the prosecutor requested an extension of the arrest period for the duration of the investigation. The defense, in turn, insisted on choosing a mitigating measure of restraint in the form of house arrest.

Kushnarev took over the post of Deputy governor and Minister of Transport of the region in June this year. Prior to that, from 2021 to 2024, he was a deputy of the State Duma and headed the Ministry of Transport of the Rostov region from 2014 to 2016.

Law enforcement officers detained Kushnarev on November 25 last year while accepting a bribe of 27 million rubles. The defendant is charged under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Receiving a particularly large bribe"), as well as under Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, carrying firearms and ammunition").

A source from Izvestia reported that Dmitry Mamelko, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Rostov Region, was detained along with Kushnarev, but he was later released.
